Expect a Broad Spectrum Of Power Performance Figures In Different Trims
The company didn’t announce any further details yet. However, we speculate it could be dual-motor, tri-motor, and quad-motor setups. A tri-motor setup would directly be pitted against the Cybertruck’s top-trim, whereas a dual-motor powertrain could serve as the base trim and be produced for the masses. The performance figures, battery capacities, and range will be different for each one of them.
Will It Be The First Electric Truck To Hit The Markets?
The company has mostly been inactive in the EV scenario, but now all of a sudden it has decided to launch a vehicle in under two years after announcing it? If GM can stick to it, well and good, because the company can’t be clinging on to the Bolt as its EV face forever. It’s also a smart move to put it under the GMC brand rather than Chevrolet as both GMC and Hummer could benefit from it.
Here’s What We Know About The Truck Until Now
This could be the top-of-the-line trim in the Hummer EV’s lineup. As I’ve mentioned previously, there is no word on how many motors will work in tandem to do this, but it could very well feature a four-motor setup.
In comparison, Rivian R1T’s four-motor setup makes 788 horses and Bollinger B2’s produces 614 ponies. Official figures for the Cybertruck are not out yet, but in the top-spec tri-motor setup, it should be in the ballpark of 700 horses.
There is no truck or SUV currently that matches this figure in any way. Tesla and Rivian haven’t revealed their torque figures yet, but the Bollinger twins will produce 668 pound-feet of torque. This is nowhere close to the Hummer EV’s figures. Unless another automaker comes up with such ridiculous torque figures, the revived brand’s first EV will be the undisputed king of torque. It goes unsaid that the towing figure would be outrageous as well.
Compared to the power outputs, the 0-60 mph seems to be on the slower side. The Rivian twins take three seconds to hit the same mark, whereas the Cybertruck in its top-spec form takes 2.9 seconds from a standstill to 60 mph. The Cybertruck with the Plaid Powertrain will be even faster.
Final Thoughts
Now that we know the Hummer EV will be offered with three electric motor options, we can safely assume that the truck will serve to a larger audience and won’t be a niche vehicle.
