In the afternoon,  Dame Katherine Grainger, Olympic gold medalist Helen Glover, Bill Sweeney CEO of the British Olympic Association and Maurice Watkins, British Swimming chairman discussed what it takes to reach the pinnacle of sport. 

Trust in the team around you was deemed crucial, but the principal dilemma thrown up was finding a balance between creating a winning culture and protect athlete welfare.

In a discussion chaired by BT Sport’s Jake Humphrey with Stephen Lyle, Channel 4’s sport commissioning editor, Barbara Slater a BBC director and Jerry Newman of Facebook all took the view that broadcasters and social platforms have a complementary relationship and not an oppositional one. 

The day finished with a look ahead to the IAAF World Championships in London, which has defied fears about the effects of several dopings scandals by selling out and attracting major sponsors.
