Asked directly if Rosberg would be an unworthy winner if double points proved
pivotal, Wolff said: “Whoever has most points at the end of the season is a
worthy champion. You have to be pragmatic. It’s what it is. Whoever wins the
championship will have his name in the record books.

“Even though if it really comes down to that situation, some of us might have
a different feeling about it, it is what it is.”

Double points has proved one of the most unpopular rules in the history of the
sport with drivers, teams and fans. It was introduced by Bernie Ecclestone,
Formula One’s impresario, before the start of this year after Sebastian
Vettel ran away with the championship in the latter half of the 2013 season.

Wolff said he would push for the rule to be scrapped. “Nobody likes the double
points,” he said. “We are going to discuss it next time around. I don’t
think Bernie likes it, so it is probably something we should be getting rid
of for next season.”
