‘s deputy team principal, the letter continues criticism of the
sport’s ‘Strategy Group’, made up of the five biggest teams, Ecclestone and
the FIA.

“After our meeting in Brazil we clearly see the direction of Formula One towards
customer cars/super GP2,” Fernley wrote. “It is equally clear that the
Strategy Group has no intention at all to reduce cost. We would like to
highlight that we came to you primarily with the request to reduce costs.”

The FIA or its president, Jean Todt, have made no public comment on the issue
of costs for two and a half weeks, in which time huge rancorous divisions
have opened up in the sport.

The row erupted after Caterham and Marussia went into administration. Despite
making 230 staff redundant, Caterham will race in Abu Dhabi thanks to their
‘crowdfunding’ efforts, while there seems to be no way back for Marussia.
