Ecclestone has long been trying to persuade the teams to commit to more than 20 races in a year. Control of the calendar is one of the most powerful tools FOM still have at their disposal.
Andrew Westacott, the incoming chief executive of the Australian Grand Prix, said: “The new date will see an earlier start time, and fans can expect the same great on-track action and off-track entertainment across the four days.”
