The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is opening a new investigation looking into the 2008 Honda Accord.
NHTSA is looking at 348,000 Accord models over concerns that the airbags may not deploy in a crash due to a flaw. The association has received 19 complaints about the problem, including one that says that the airbag failed to deploy in a head-on collision.
Faulty airbag modules are to blame according to NHTSA, as they do not communicate the proper diagnostic trouble codes to mechanics. According to NHTSA, this “raises concern about the readiness of the entire supplemental restraints system.”
Honda says that it is aware of the investigation and that it plans on cooperating with NHTSA as the review continues. The vehicles will be recalled if NHTSA deems it necessary.
