Best moment of the year: Williams’
win in Barcelona
Eight years after their last victory my old team were back on the top step. I
think Williams still embody that spirit of an independent team fighting
against the might of the big manufacturers. The fact that Pastor Maldonado’s
win was so unexpected, after the team’s annus horribilis in
2011, made it more special.
Worst moment of the year: Williams’ fire in Barcelona
I felt sick watching replays of Romain Grosjean’s crash at Spa, when his Lotus
flew inches over the head of Alonso, but the worst moment for me came live
on air when that fire broke out in the Williams garage post-race. We had no
idea how serious it might be. Thankfully, it ended up showing F1 at its best
as the whole paddock united to help the Williams team.
Driver to watch in 2013: Lewis Hamilton
You have to look to the drivers who have switched teams. We know what Fernando
can do in a Ferrari. We don’t know how Sergio Pérez will fare against Jenson
Button, or Lewis against Nico Rosberg. It could be a career-defining move
for Lewis. When I left McLaren
for Red
Bull I felt I grew as an individual.
