Porsche has a rich heritage in racing and motorsports and now the German automaker is out looking for the next great driver.
Recently, Porsche Motorsport North America held its first Young Driver Academy at Barber Motorsports Park. Focused on the 911 GT3 Cup car, Porsche’s newest program used elements from its European Junior selection program while adding specific details related to North American racing. Four up-and-coming drivers were featured in the first Young Driver Academy: Sean Johnston, Cooper MacNeil, Kyle Marcelli, and Spencer Pigot. All four drivers were younger than 25.
“The two-day program, which included classroom testing and instruction, personality evaluation, media training and multiple driving activities, not only gave us a good insight into the potential for these drivers, but was designed to help make them more professional and provide personalized guidance for their up-and-coming sports car careers,” said Jens Walther, president of Porsche Motorsport North America.
Participating instructors from Porsche included Hurley Haywood, Patrick Long, Andrew Davis, Jeff Purner, and Justin Bell.
