The Renault engine manufacturer has announced that the reason the Renault engines of both Sebastian Vettel – at Red Bull – and Romain Grosjean – at Lotus – broke down in the European Grand Prix in Valencia, causing a huge shakeup in the order and an interesting race, was due to an overheating alternator. I remember it striking me at the time that although they were different teams, both drivers reported basically the same sudden power loss in their engines and pulled off the track, both capable of winning the race – especially Vettel, who had led from the beginning.
