This week is the off season of the off season of Formula 1. That is, we’re in the middle of winter with the F1 cars having tested for the first time last week, at Jerez, and next week they will return to test again, at Barcelona. But for this week, nothing but summing up and a lot of work at the factories.

In fact, the Jerez circuit was not the most representative of the test circuits, and it was difficult to tell what the new cars and their new technology mean in terms of the relative strengths of the teams. Barcelona, however, is one of those circuits where the best car tends to be fastest – as the track has such a combination of the all the regular aspects of tracks where the cars race – i.e., straights, all kinds of corners, braking. It is certain that the drivers will be working hard at Barcelona to get all the various bits and pieces of their driving art together for the new season that starts in Australia in mid-March.
