The Lincoln MKC will be based on the 2013 Ford Escape.
Lincoln is set to debut a compact crossover called the MKC at the 2013 Detroit auto show in a few weeks’ time, according to a report from The Detroit Bureau. Lincoln declined to comment on the report, but C/D sources indicate that Ford’s luxury arm will, in fact, unveil the crossover next month. Said to be based on the underpinnings of the Ford Escape, the luxury utelet is expected to follow the Lincoln formula of plucking a platform from the Blue Oval’s roster, slathering the interior in leather and other uprated materials, adding a number of options as standard, and applying a winged egg-slicer grille.

The good news for the recently rechristened Lincoln Motor Company is that the C-segment architecture used by the Escape is shared with the 10Best-winning Focus. The bad news for Lincoln is that the aforementioned strategy was applied to the all-new MKZ, a car that’s difficult to justify when the Fusion on which it’s based offers so much goodness for considerably less.
