Neither Di Resta nor Hamilton would comment last night but it is understood
that the father of the 2008 world F1 champion strenuously denies any
wrongdoing.

Telegraph Sport disclosed that the pair had split prior to last month’s
British Grand Prix at Silverstone, although Di Resta would not comment on
the reasons behind their separation.

“I think everything has been said,” he said. “I can confirm we are not working
together. That is the matter at the moment.

“I am fully focused on my racing. At the end of the day it is results that
count for me and that is what will drive me forward. We have had a good year
up to now and aim is to carry that forward.”

The situation is made more delicate by the fact that Di Resta has been taking
guidance from the Sports Partnership, a company set up by Lewis Hamilton’s
McLaren team-mate Jenson Button and his manager Richard Goddard.

Lewis Hamilton was managed by his father until the start of 2010 when they
separated in awkward fashion, going weeks without speaking to one another.

Hamilton snr returned to the paddock at the start of last year in his capacity
as manager of Di Resta and his relationship with his son has since improved.

The possibility of a court case later this year between his father and one of
his on-track rivals, who is now being advised by his team-mate’s manager,
will not be appealing to Lewis Hamilton. It is thought most likely that both
parties will agree to settle before it is allowed to get to that stage.
