Lewis Hamilton, the McLaren Mercedes driver who has won two of the last three races – in Belgium and in Italy – scored pole position in Singapore in preparation for the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday.  The pole position at the street circuit in Singapore is as important as in Monaco, as it is difficult to overtake on the track through the streets of the city.

“I’ve always believed that if we could start the season strongly, we’d be able to pull ahead,” said Hamilton.  “We’ve been there or thereabouts all season, but now I think we’re starting to see the real strength of my team pull through.”

It was the 24th pole position of Hamilton’s Formula 1 career.  Hamilton won the Belgian Grand Prix in July, his teammate Jenson Button, won the Belgian Grand Prix at the beginning of September and then Hamilton won the Italian Grand Prix two weeks ago.
