“You guys can eat your words,” Hamilton said of that speculation. “I have
nothing positive to say about these tyres. If you can’t get past a Sauber,
you know you have issues. Especially when you were over a second faster in
qualifying.
“But there is a long way to go and there are new tyres coming [for the next
race in Hungary]. I’m not even going to hope or pray that those tyres are
going to suit us because most likely they will suit Red
Bull.”
All teams bar Mercedes, who are banned as a result of their illegal Pirelli
test, will have a chance to experiment with those new tyres at Silverstone
next week.
Hamilton, who admitted over the weekend that his “life had been turned upside
down” by his recent split with American pop star girlfriend Nicole
Scherzinger, said he would try to keep himself busy.
“I need to keep myself occupied and busy because otherwise my mind will wander
and that makes the time a lot harder,” the Englishman said. “I need to keep
myself really busy with training and make sure the time goes by quickly.”
