Typically, the teams declined to accept Pirelli’s proposed modifications
anyway as some of them felt it would affect their competitiveness.

Despite the fact that Formula One is still watched by millions, and makes its
private equity owners billions, everywhere you look is division and
distrust.

Teams cannot agree on anything, the sport’s chief executive – a man still
waiting to find out if he will have to stand trial in Germany on corruption
charges – is at loggerheads with the FIA president, and the future is
clouded in uncertainty.

It is expected that the latest Concorde Agreement, the commercial pact which
binds the sport together, will be signed off this week after years of
haggling. Do not bet on it. The spirit of cooperation seen yesterday is
unlikely to last for long.
