It was a celebration for Lewis Hamilton who took the lead of the inaugural U.S. Grand Prix in Austin today when the British driver passed Sebastian Vettel to take the lead of the race with 14 laps left and go on to win. Hamilton also won the last Grand Prix in the U.S., at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2007.
But the biggest winner of the race weekend in Austin was probably Austin itself, which hosted a successful race weekend from beginning to end. With a full house of 117,000 spectators, the race itself was better than anyone might have expected. And with Fernando Alonso finishing third, it ensured that the battle for the drivers’ title continues to the last race, in Brazil next week.
