collisions before hitting out at the stewards, joking they might have it in
for him “because I’m black”. Vettel kept his head down and won
from pole. Again. His lead at this stage was up to 61 points over Hamilton.

The longest race in championship history – featuring a lengthy rain delay and
a record six safety cars – ended with Jenson Button forcing a rare mistake
from Vettel on the very last lap. Button moved into second place in the
title race, 60 points behind Vettel.
Europe

Another pole-to-chequered-flag win for Vettel in Valencia, prompting Hamilton
to concede the championship with over half the season left (he changed his
mind the following morning via Twitter). His despondency was understandable.
Vettel�s lead was now up to 77 points over Button, equivalent to over three
unanswered wins.
Silverstone

Silverstone saw the start of a slight wobble for Vettel, whose race was
compromised when the FIA limited the use of off-throttle blown diffusers.
The German eventually came second after Red Bull controversially ordered
Webber to “maintain the gap” behind him in third. Championship
lead: 80 points (over Webber).

Perhaps feeling the weight of expectation from his home fans, Vettel was
outqualified by his team-mate for the second race running and then gave hope
to his title rivals with an uncharacteristically lacklustre race, which he
finished fourth. Championship lead: 77 points (over Webber).

Vettel returned from the summer break with his mojo fully restored and
immediately set about dominating his rivals. He won his first ever Belgian
Grand Prix in a race best remembered for Hamilton�s high-speed crash after a
collision with Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi. Vettel’s championship lead? 92
points (over Webber).

With his rivals now all but defeated Vettel showed them no mercy at Monza,
his Red Bull proving surprisingly suited to the high-speed circuit. The 24
year-old even passed Ferrari favourite Alonso at 200mph around the outside
of the Curva Grande, stretching his lead to 112 points over the Spaniard.
Singapore

Another pole-to-chequered flag parade for Vettel beneath the bright lights of
of the Marina Bay Circuit. It looked as if that might be enough to seal the
deal, but Button’s second meant the title ‘race’ dragged on to Japan where
Vettel needed just one more point to be sure. Lead 124pts.

An end-of-term feeling prevailed at Suzuka with no one in any doubt that
Vettel was going to finish the job. Pole on Saturday, despite the impression
that McLaren had the faster car, only reinforced that feeling. Sure enough,
Vettel took a safe third behind Button to become F1’s youngest double
winner.

Sebastian Vettel delivered a champion’s drive to secure his 10th victory of
the season and hand Red Bull their second consecutive Formula One
constructors’ title.

Vettel won the largely successful inaugural race at Greater Noida ahead of
Button and Alonso allowing both to consolidate their second and third places
overall.
Abu Dhabi

Vettel failed to make it around the first lap after suffering a puncture on
the second turn and was forced to swerve off. Once back in the pits he
retired from the race having damaged his suspension too much to continue. It
was the first time he had failed to finish a race this season.
Brazil

Vettel started well at the Interlagos track but his race came undone by a
fault with his gearbox. he was instructed by his team to let Mark Webber
pass. He did and drove well to hold onto second place. His pole position
meant he over took Nigel Mansell in the standings for most poles in a
season.
