“As part of our standard safety protocol, a full investigation has been
launched by IndyCar, to determine the factors involved in this accident. We
hope to have preliminary findings within several weeks.”
Bernard said he was sorry if his comments this summer had been misinterpreted.
“Danger has been an inherent part of the sport since 1909,” he said.
“I don’t know if what I said was taken out of context but, if you know me, you
know where my loyalties lie. I’m very respectful to the drivers and the
sport.”
A memorial service for Wheldon will be held on Oct 23 at the Conseco
Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
