It’s a big weekend of motorsport, and the LH500 at Phillip Island will have a big bearing on who eventually wins the 2011 V8 Supercar Championship. It’s a tussle of the teammates at the moment, with Jamie Whincup holding a slender advantage over his Triple Eight cohort Craig Lowndes. Of course, the drivers can no longer be paired together, so each is out for themselves in this 500km race.

It’s a tough ask for the co-drivers, with the partnership of Lowndes and Mark Skaife – who’s starting his last couple of V8 races for the interim as he has undertaken not to race in 2012 – looking the better bet than that of Whincup and Fujitsu series leader Andrew Thompson. Still the Vodafone guys have proven speed, their Commodores are reliable, and they are the defending champions of the event.
