Following in a trend that has seen drivers return to racing at the highest levels in Formula 1 and elsewhere, Pedro de la Rosa today announced that he is returning to racing next year, leaving the McLaren team as a test driver and going to a full time drive at HRT in 2012,
“This is a very important step in my sporting career and one of the most meditated ones I’ve taken,” said de la Rosa. “I’m at a very good stage in terms of maturity and am prepared to take on this challenge, which motivates me hugely.”
Michael Schumacher returned last year at the age of 41, and earlier this year Jean Alesi, 47, announced that he was returning to racing next year in the Indianapolis 500 where he will be a rookie.
