Mark Webber, without a win to his name this year compared to the 11 scored by
team-mate Vettel, was down in third, 0.137secs down, with McLaren’s Lewis
Hamilton fourth.

As has become the way of late there was a gap then to the Ferrari of Fernando
Alonso, who was three tenths of a second off the pace. But not as much as
team-mate Felipe Massa, with the Brazilian down in 10th, languishing
1.123secs behind Vettel and 0.8secs to Alonso.

In between the Ferrari pair were Adrian Sutil in his Force India in sixth, two
thirds of a second down, followed by Mercedes pair Nico Rosberg and Michael
Schumacher, with Paul di Resta ninth, almost a second behind.

Virgin’s Timo Glock was 23rd and last of those that set a time, the German
5.524secs adrift, with a hydraulic leak troubling Sebastien Buemi in his
Toro Rosso and restricting the Swiss to just three installation laps.
