The BMW X1 has had a rocky road trying to make its way to America. Back last year, the German automaker announced that it’d be delayed until late this year, but now BMW North America has said that the X1′s launch in the U.S. will be postponed indefinitely.

Due to the overwhelming demand in other markets and a poor euro-to-dollar exchange rate, BMW has decided that now is not the right time to launch the X1 in America. The X1 has surprisingly become one of Europe’s best-selling SUVs so the German automaker wants to ensure supply meets demand in their home region.

It’s a bummer since we were looking forward to the compact SUV with its 240-hp, turbo-four engine. Even better was the rumor that the X1 M35i xDrive would make it to America as our first M Performance vehicle, but now we’d be fortunate for the X1 to show up at all.
