Williams’ Pastor Maldonado and Sauber’s Esteban Gutierrez were both eliminated
in the first phase of qualifying, together with 21-year-old British debutant
Max Chilton for Marussia.
Maldanado, the most prominent casualty, was scathing about the problems at
Williams. The Venezuela said angrily: “I think we’re back to two years ago
with conditions in the team. We need to work very hard to sort out the
problems. The car is undriveable at the moment.”
