Acura RLX Concept

Acura RLX Concept

Acura’s new flagship sedan makes its debut at the L.A. auto show on November 28. The Acura RLX, which takes the place of the slow-selling RL, gets a smaller, direct-injected 310-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 that’s more fuel-efficient than the 300-hp, 3.7-liter V-6 that powered the RL. The RLX also gets a new all-wheel steer system, which adjusts rear-wheel toe angle to improve cornering control.

Both of these are welcome additions, but from the almost production-ready RLX concept we saw at the New York auto show earlier this year, Acura took a very conservative design direction. It refuses to get rid of the universally frowned upon “beak,” and the rest of the car’s shape just fails to ignite any passion. We think the bland styling is going to hurt sales, despite the significant tech upgrades, but we wouldn’t be upset to be proved wrong.
