If you’re disappointed that the 2015 Subaru WRX didn’t look like the wild concept unveiled in New York, be patient.

In an interview with MotorTrend, chief Subaru designer Mamoru Ishii revealed that the Japanese automaker will take “the next-generation Impreza’s design in a new direction” that it’s sure will excite the marketplace. Ishii noted that some of the WRX concept’s proportions will transfer to the next-generation WRX meaning the lower section of the sports sedan will be wider with a more substantial stance and a narrowed roof section.

The next-generation Impreza is expected to debut in 2016 with the WRX to follow. The current Impreza lineup was launched two years ago while the new WRX made its debut at last year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
