See this gargantuan construction? The more astute among you will recognise it as two loop-the-loops… in a row.
Attempting to drive anything more than a bicycle made of airbags through this is patently insane. Which is why, of course, the lads at TopGear Live will try to drive a buggy through it. If they pull it off, it’ll be the first time in history anyone’s done it successfully, netting the TG boys a freshly minted world record.
According to Creative Director Rowland French, “there’s a very real possibility of the buggy falling out from the top of the second loop. There’s absolutely no margin for error, which is probably why no one has ever been mad enough to try it before.”
Should the driver enter the loop just 4km/h too slowly, the buggy will fall from the top of the loop. This isn’t an especially pleasant outcome. So, the answer is more speed, right? Well, not so much. Going too fast through the loop results in extra g force and could cause the plucky (read: stupid) driver of the buggy to simply to black out.
It’s on for the first time in Durban, South Africa this Saturday night, in front of about 15,000 people.
So, will the stunt come off? Or will the driver?
