New Jersey’s race has now been postponed until 2014 but Ecclestone is
keen to have 20 races again next year.
The decision to move the German Grand Prix to July 7 means there is now only
one week between the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on June 30 and the
race in Germany, with the mystery July 21 grand prix back-to-back with
Hungary one week later.
It also means that the German Grand Prix clashes with Goodwood’s Festival of
Speed weekend.
As well as the changes to the calendar, world motorsport’s governingbody
confirmed the abolition of the ‘force majeure’ rule in qualifying,
which both McLaren and Red Bull tried to invoke after stopping cars on track
following the end of Q3, while DRS during practice will only be permitted in
the race-specified zones.
Formula One’s Technical Working Group also agreed to postpone until 2017
the requirement for all cars to be driven exclusively under electric power
in the pitlane.
