BEST RACE

British GP Five tyre blowouts, two safety cars, a rare
retirement for Vettel and the threat of a driver boycott. Silverstone
provided the venue for the most dramatic grand prix of the season, even if
it was for all the wrong reasons. The fiasco led to a switch in the tyre
structure which had a profound impact on the rest of the year.

BIGGEST CONTROVERSY

Mercedes’ ‘private’ Pirelli test. The revelation on
the morning of the Monaco Grand Prix that Mercedes
had been covertly testing Pirelli tyres in Barcelona, with Lewis
Hamilton
and Nico Rosberg both wearing anonymous helmets in an
apparent attempt to fly under the radar, sent rival teams into meltdown.

QUOTE OF THE YEAR

“Multi 21, Seb! Multi 21.” A furious Webber just
about keeps his cool when confronting his team-mate Vettel for defying team
orders to snatch victory from him in Malaysia.

FUNNIEST MOMENT OF YEAR

Bernie’s revolving door moment The $100 million damages
lawsuit being heard in London, in which Bernie Ecclestone is a co-defendant,
has not been a barrel of laughs for the sport. But Formula One’s chief
executive did provide a hilarious moment at the start, struggling to
negotiate the revolving door into London’s High Court.

PICTURE OF THE YEAR

’Taxi-gate’ Formula One will say goodbye to Webber
after the Brazilian GP and the veteran Australian provided one of the images
of the year when he hitched a ride back to the pits on the sidepod of
Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari in Singapore. Unfortunately, stewards were forced
to reprimand both drivers for carrying out the so-called ’taxi-ride’ in an
unsafe manner.
