Pirelli has announced the tire compounds for the first races of the Formula 1 season, which start in Melbourne next month. The Italian tire company has aimed to make the racing even more exciting this year than it was last year by changing some of the tire compounds and making a less wide difference between the tires.
But Pedro de la Rosa, a driver at the HRT team this year, thinks the compounds won’t really make a big difference in the racing. He still foresees two, three and maybe more pit stops for tire changes. Personally, I liked last year’s racing, thought it was great. And it’s true that despite the changes in technology and the drivers’ jobs developing over the years, F1 racing has stayed fairly true to its history with a lot less overtaking than in series like Nascar. But last year there was a huge increase in passing thanks to the new rules, and I thought they finally got the recipe right.
