After experiencing a surge in sales last year, Nissan hopes to see its Leaf sales double within the near future.
Nissan saw its Leaf sales grow 130 percent in 2013 with a record 22,610 units sold. The Japanese automaker also closed off the year with its strongest month of Leaf sales yet with 2,529 units sold in December.
“We are now on a trend of 3,000 cars a month in the U.S., which is about 36,000 cars” said Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn. “The next step is moving up to 4,000 a month, which is going to be approximately 50,000.”

It’s a turning point for the Nissan Leaf and plug-in vehicles in general, as 2013 sales of electrified vehicles jumped to at least 578,000 units, an increase of more than 100,000 units compared to 2012.
