The summer break this year comes at what is remarkably almost the mid-point of the Formula 1 season – there are still nine races out of 20 to run. That gave a moment for Autosport to speak to Pastor Maldonado of Williams about his season this year. Maldonado was the surprising victor of the Spanish Grand Prix in May, his first victory and the first for his team since 2004. But the Venezuelan has not scored a single point since then, and he only scored four points before that for finishing eighth at the Chinese Grand Prix.
An unusual situation, even if it has to be recognized that Maldonado’s victory in Spain was one of the highlights of the season.
“When you do well, you have everyone on your back in a good way and when you do badly you have everyone on your back in a bad way,” said Maldonado to Autosport.
