Another day, another concept car headed to the Frankfurt Motor Show. The latest concept that’s scheduled to break cover at the biggest auto show of the year is the Kia Sports Sedan Concept.
Minimal details have been given about the car except these photos, but from the looks of things, the appears to be a rear-wheel four-door, four-seater sports sedan that has been designed with a look that we haven’t seen before from the Korean manufacturer. Well, that’s not entirely true, the front of the vehicle does bare a slight resemblance to the K9 sketch revealed back in 2009. Maybe we are looking at the competitor for the BMW 7-Series and Audi A8.
“No matter from which perspective you look at it – this concept car is roaring with energy and ready for take-off,” said Peter Schreyer, Kia Motors Chief Design Officer. “I believe the car is a strong statement from Kia: we are ready to fast forward to an all new chapter.”
While we certainly were very surprised by the look of the car – at first, we actually thought it was a Maserati – Kia’s aggressive approach in the design of their future models just goes to show that their designers and engineers have some serious creative chops going for them.
UPDATE 09/09/2011: With just a few days before its official debut in Frankfurt, more details have surfaced on the Internet about Kia’s future RWD concept. First and foremost, we finally have a name: GT Concept (GT short for GranTurismo). Second, we have new images and details about the impressive design language Kia has chosen. The front end gets large, vertical air intakes flanking the grille, while the wheels with 5 carbon blades are just part of Kia’s new active braking system. No details on the powertrain just yet, but we betting this is a hybrid concept.
