First Production Cadillac ELR Rolls Off Assembly Line

The first production Cadillac ELR has rolled off the assembly line, a few months after making its official debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

The ELR is Cadillac’s version of a luxury Chevrolet Volt, but in coupe form and provides a total range of 300 miles with the same 1.4-liter on-board, gas-powered electric generator that provides extra range to a more powerful electric motor than what’s found in the Volt. As a result, the ELR outputs 207 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, a healthy 58 hp and 22 lb-ft more than the Volt.

The ELR has a battery that is 0.5 kWh larger than what’s found in the Volt, making its charge time on a 120-volt charger come in at around 12 hours. Those with a 240-volt charger can get a full charge in four and a half hours. The ELR is expected to be a sportier, more luxurious alternative to the Volt – and it shows, coming from the factory with 20-inch wheels.
