And he has backed Abiteboul to push the race team to new heights. Fernandes
said before the start of the current season that he wanted Caterham to be
competing with the midfield teams, and regularly scoring points, but 2012
has been a disappointment. Caterham have failed to deliver a point and
currently lie 11th of 12 teams.

“Cyril is going to be an excellent team principal,” Fernandes said. “He has
extensive experience in F1, he is extremely well respected and he shares our
vision for what we want our team to achieve.

“He takes over during a season when we have not yet fulfilled our potential,
but at a time when we have everything in place to help us do so. One day we
will earn our seat at the top table of Formula One and he is the right
person to take us there.”
