Audi Q7 Main

Disagreements over styling have caused Audi to delay the launch of the new Q7, and our spy photographers have grabbed some shots of the SUV with some slightly new looks.

Previous prototype units of the Q7 were seen wearing fake headlights, while these photos appear to show the real thing. You can also see three holes cut into the front fascia camouflage, a feature that wasn’t seen before and suggests that some changes have been made to the front end. Square tailpipes like those found on the Audi R8 are also seen in these spy photos.

About 800 lbs. has been shaved from the Q7 thanks to a new lightweight architecture which will also underpin the new Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg and upcoming SUV from Bentley.  A range of engines including 3.0- and 4.0-liter TFSI units and a 3.0-liter TDI will be available, while a plug-in hybrid model is expected.

According to a previous report, the Q7 has been delayed because of its styling, which had been finalized by Audi’s former chief designer Wolfgang Egger. Now, the new chief designer Marc Lichte wants to take some of the aggressive features out of the Q7, and is working on a new design.

The Audi Q7 is expected to debut as a 2015 model year vehicle.
