BMW just announced North American pricing for its newest nameplate: the 2 Series.
The new 2 Series is essentially the next generation 1 Series with a different badge. Leaked pricing information from other markets hinted at what it might cost, but BMW announced today that the 228i will start at $33,025 including delivery. The range-topping M235i will cost $44,025.
At the entry level, BMW is charging a $600 premium for the 228i. It’s powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 240 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission although a manual is also available for no extra charge.
The hotter M235i commands a heftier $3,500 price increase over the 135i, but it really is closer to the higher-performing 135is. In fact, the new M235i is actually $450 cheaper to start. It uses the same transmission options as the 228i, although BMW will equip the car with a seven-speed dual clutch for an extra $900. The familiar boosted 3.0-liter inline six makes 322 hp and 332 lb-ft, for a mild increase over the same engine in last year’s model.
More detailed information will be announced during the car’s public debut next January at the Detroit Auto Show.
